Paragon Theatre & Espresso Bar

The Paragon Theatre is a rare surviving 1920’s, state heritage listed entertainment and vintage cinema venue located 4hrs north of Brisbane, on the Bruce Highway in Childers – a small agricultural town. In February 2007, Merissa Ricciardi purchased the theatre from her grandparents and began restoration efforts which breathed new life into The Paragon allowing it to be reopened to the public in 2014 as a cinema and entertainment venue. Since it’s re-opening, The Paragon Theatre has played host to numerous classic and cult film days/nights attracting people locally, nationally and even internationally. If you are looking for a truly original classic film experience, The Paragon Theatre will transport you there!

The Paragon Theatre also hosts its very own Espresso Bar (open 7 days) where you can enjoy fresh barista-made coffee and toasties made from local ingredients and much more. Take a moment to relax and enjoy the atmosphere from the 1930’s themed lounge and get a feel for the building and the town of Childers. Stop by when you are passing by next and see for yourself. We also stock the Childers Famous ‘Mammino Gourmet Ice Cream’ aswell, so if a sweet treat is what you are after, we also have you covered.

Alexandra Park Zoo

Nestled on the banks of the Burnett River on Quay Street, Alexandra Park offers a playground for all ages under the shade of large Fig Trees. The kids can play on the playground or run in the large open spaces. The Rotunda gives the park an old-time feel. Keep an eye out for locals participating in yoga lessons or walking/running along the Riverside Walk. Alexandra Park is also home to our region’s Council operated zoo. The zoo was established in 1911 and is one of Queensland’s oldest continuously running zoological facilities.

Today, the zoo is home to a compact menagerie featuring exhibits with pint-size monkeys, dingoes, lizards, snakes, birds and more!

It is accredited under the Zoo and Aquarium Australia’s (ZAA) Five Domains Model which demonstrates a commitment to positive animal welfare.

Bundaberg Brewed Drinks Barrel

Hours: Monday – Saturday 9am until 4:30pm, Sunday & public holidays 10am until 3pm. Open all public holidays except Christmas Day, Boxing Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day. Please note that tours cease one hour prior to close.

Visit the Bundaberg Brewed Drinks Barrel for a one-of-a-kind experience. Sample each one of the brews through the fun and informative guided Tastings then select 6 of your favourites for a mix-it-yourself take home pack. Take a self-guided walk through the Gallery to learn about how they craft and bottle their brews including the iconic Bundaberg Ginger Beer. You’ll play ‘guess the flavour’ with the smellography wall, learn more about the real ingredients used in their brews, unlock the secret to the great taste and see the brewery in action via the 360 degree cameras. Browse the great range of merchandise to take home as a memento of your visit or the perfect gift. The full range of Brews are also available for purchase.

Bundaberg Rum Visitor Experience

Australia’s most awarded rum distillery, and the home of Bundaberg Rum, opened the doors to a new Visitor Experience in August 2016 following an AUD8.5 million upgrade. After exploring the museum, join one of our expert distillery guides on a journey deep into the heart of the working Bundaberg Rum Distillery. Start by visiting our molasses well, which holds up to 5 million litres of molasses, fresh from our neighbours at the sugar mill across the road. Then on to fermentation where you’ll get a sneak-peak into one of our fermentation tanks, before learning all about our double distillation process. Finally head on to our grand Barrel House where you’ll learn about how we age and mature our rum for a minimum of two years before our liquid makes it’s way into a bottle. Once you’ve experienced the sights and smells of our distillery, you’ll return to our Bundaberg Rum Tasting Bar, where you can sample any of the top shelf rums from our range. Cheers to that!

Bundy Belle

Fairymead House Sugar Museum

The relocated and restored Fairymead House overlooks the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens with the splendour of a bygone era. Built in 1890, this grand plantation house includes the Sugar History Museum, exploring the development of the local sugar industry from its earliest days. View the magnificent Indian bungalow architecture and discover the history of the Bundaberg sugar industry and the pioneer sugar families through self guided exploration of the heritage listed Fairymead House. Fairymead House is available for hire as a wedding/function/conference venue. If you are looking for a venue with a difference Fairymead House is the ideal location for you. The majestic plantation house offers an exclusive function venue for a maximum of 60 guests. Set amongst the lush tropical surrounds of the Botanic Gardens.
